For the last 6 months we have been working heavily on HTML5 web based applications. An entirely new way of distributing and running applications that are all based upon web standards and entirely portable.
What is wrong with Android / iPhone apps ? For the user your apps don’t work on other platforms, you constantly are required to buy apps across your phone, desktop, and tablets ? Shouldn’t you just be able to download once, and let the rest take care of itself. A great article on the register details the differences between Mozilla’s vision and the status quo.
This is the first test day of the web apps infrastructure that will help power the revolution in application usability.
“In this world both the browser and apps connect us to a universally accessible, interoperable Internet that encourages innovation without censorship.” – Mitchell Baker
Tasks for the test day:
Verify defined functionality of the app
Exploratory test the system
Verify you can purchase / delete / reinstall applications
Play Games / Test out our awesome web apps before anyone else
Give us feedback on what you feel is intuitive or not !
To cover the work throughout the whole day we have created an Etherpad. Everyone should check the separate sections. Feel free to work on an area you are interested in. There will be mentors in the channel to help you out.
Welcome to the new world of truly mobile and ready to go apps. Web Applications will soon be available for all of our over 400 million users world-wide. If you have time on Friday Dec 2nd, please join us on IRC at #testday.
