What is true that I have seen, is that the companies where developers do some of their own testing prior to checkin have the least amount of regressions.

There was one developer in particular that I recall, people had a hard time finding bugs… even someone senior to me in QA that had over 14 years of experience had problems finding good bugs in his area.  That developer tested his own code often and was very familiar with the code.

I want to be a developer just like him…  One who doesn’t regress a lot nor have bugs in code.

Probably the best compromise though is to have some automation in place as Mozilla does, such as the try server… which goes to say… we need more automation tests…

On a side note, I guess I have a habit of saying things that cause too much controversy.
