SUMMARY:Testday: New Add-ons Manager
DESCRIPTION:The MozQA community is holding a Testday on Friday\, June 11th\, for users interested in the use\, development and/or testing of the new Addons Manager for Firefox 4. We’re going to have the awesome Firefox QA and development team available to help users perform exploratory testing for that new feature and just generally chat about it with the community via IRC Chat (channel #testday on irc://irc.mozilla.org). So\, if you’re interested\, come on by anytime between 1AM to 5PM PDT that Friday! \nHow to Get Started\nTo start running tests of any sort against the new Add-ons Manager simply requires a latest nightly build for the upcoming Firefox 4. Just grab a build from the FTP site\, install it in parallel to your default Firefox installation\, and also use a separate profile for testing. That’s it! \nNote: To test different available extensions from addons.mozilla.org or other websites you should disable the “extensions.checkCompatibility.3.7a” preference in about:config. You can also install the developer version of the Add-ons Compatibility Reporter which sets all the needed hidden preferences automatically. \nDetails\nSince our last Add-ons Manager testday\, on April 24th\, a lot of bug fixes and improvements have been checked into our development branch. We have to say thanks again to everyone who has participated in that event and gave us those fantastic results. We hope the next testday will be attended in a similar manner. \nAs what we have done last time\, we will do again but with a much larger set of exploratory tests. Therefore you should have a look at our feature tracking spreadsheet which lists any area of testing for the new Add-ons Manager. Select one of those areas and think about which particular tests should be run against it. Execute all of those tests and once you have found an issue\, it should be discussed on IRC and filed as a new bug on Bugzilla. \nAreas which need the most attention during the testday are: \n\nInstalling\, enabling\, disabling\, and removing any kind of extension\n\nAreas we don’t have to work with: \n\nThe “Get Add-ons” pane is still under development. The currently available version is a placeholder only.\nThe details panes for all types of add-ons are still placeholders for the real data pulled from AMO.\n\nHow will the testing work during the testday: \nTo make sure that we cover each specific area we wanna track our work in the testday spreadsheet. Make sure to assign yourself to a given area and start with exploratory testing. Any bugs you have found should be filed on Bugzilla. Make sure that there isn’t already a bug for it by checking all known bugs.

SUMMARY:Testday - Mozmill\, Firefox Sync\, and Tab Candy - Friday\, August 13th
DESCRIPTION:Mozilla QA is having a test day this Friday\, and we’ll be testing some of the new functionality that is expected to land before we ship Firefox 4.0 beta 4. Barring landing complications we should have Firefox Sync and Tab Candy ready to test in the nightlies by Friday. \nThat’s right: Firefox Sync and Tab Candy! \nJoin us on IRC in the #testday channel. We’ll tell you where to get the builds we’re going to be testing\, and we’ll post further instructions. \nBeside any manual testing efforts for a recent Firefox 4.0 nightly build\, this time we also want to cover automated testing. In addition to the upcoming release of Mozmill 1.4.2\, we want to get as much as possible coverage by our testing community to make sure that results from automated Mozmill test-runs for Firefox are reliable and that no regressions have been introduced\, compared to Mozmill 1.4.1. \nTo help testing you simply have to install Mozmill 1.4.2b3 as and add-on or as command line client. The test collection can be downloaded from\nhere or cloned from our HG repository. To run tests with the add-on\, open a folder or a specific test file under ‘mozmill-tests/firefox/’. With the command line client specify the location with the ‘-t’ option. For more information see our documentation.

SUMMARY:Testday - AMO Collections - September 1st\, 2010
DESCRIPTION:Hello there\, and welcome to the AMO test day! Thanks for volunteering your time and energy to help us improve addons.mozilla.org! Below\, you’ll find the setup information and some use-cases to help guide you in your testing; feel free\, though\, to go off on your own and just ad-hoc test! \nStaging server: https://next.addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ \nWhat are we testing? \nThe focus for this testday are the changes for 5.11.9 which includes- \n\nThe new Collections pages.\nView/Edit Profile pages\nPassword reset page\nUser Registration and Verification\n\nWhat are Collections? \nCollections are groups of related add-ons created by users to share. \nWhat to test? \nHere are a few things you could check for: \n\nFunctionality – a Feature does what it is supposed to do.\nLayout issues\nUsability (does something not make sense? seem hard to use?)\nSecurity – XSS\,encoding/escaping issues\, etc.\nError handling – System fails gracefully and displays useful and appropriate user/error messages\n\nPages/features to be tested \n\nCollection landing page\nCollection Creation\nEdit/Delete Collection\nPrivacy setting for Collections\nMultiple Install for collections\nTransferring Owners\nCollection sorts\nView Profile Page\nEdit profile page\nRegistration/Verification\nPassword reset page\nCollection Search\n\nLitmus test-run for new Collections: \nYou can run our testrun for Collections here \nYou can also help us do end-to-end testing by running the testruns listed below: \n\nTestrun for AMO Public pages – Includes testcases to validate user functionalities like adding add-on reviews\,updating user profile etc. Don’t forget to spiral around   scenarios to check for edge-cases.\nTestrun for AMO Search – Includes testcases to test Search functionality on AMO. Don’t forget to spiral around scenarios to check for edge-cases.\nTestrun for Add-on Collector – Includes testcases to check for the extension Add-on Collector. Learn more about Add-on Collector here\nTestrun for AMO Tagging – Includes testcases to validate tagging add-ons. Don’t forget to spiral around scenarios to check for edge-cases.\nTestrun for Button-states – Includes testcases to test the different button-states on AMO.\n\nWhat *not* to worry about? \n\nDon’t worry about -261 or -203 errors when trying to install an add-on; the preview server doesn’t always have the most up-to-date files synced to it from the production database\n\nYou found a bug! \nAwesome! First thing you need to do is to check whether it’s a known issue. You can search for existing AMO bugs here \nIf you found a new/un-reported bug\, give yourself a pat on the back and then please file the bug here \nIf the process of filing a bug seems too daunting a task or if you are not sure whether something is a bug or not\, then find someone in #testday channel on IRC to help you. \nAlso\, if you have permissions\, please add [testday09012010] to the status whiteboard; thanks! \nYou want to do more \nThanks for your interest in further testing our websites here at Mozilla! For an overview and ways to engage with us\, please see https://wiki.mozilla.org/QA/Execution/Web_Testing/Contribute. If you have any questions along the way\, the best way to reach the team is via IRC\, in #mozwebqa\, on irc.mozilla.org. Here are some instructions for those of you new to IRC. \nFor complete and up-to-date information\, please see: https://wiki.mozilla.org/QA/Execution/Web_Testing/AMO/Testday/09012010 \nContact us \nAakash Desai \nKrupa Raj \nStephen Donner

SUMMARY:Mozilla QA Bug Week
DESCRIPTION:Mozilla QA is excited to announce that we will be holding our first ever week-long bugday event.  The goal of this event will be to resolve all the outstanding in-litmus? bugs for Firefox 4. \nWhat are in-litmus bugs?\nWe have thousands of bugs filed in our system.  Sometimes those bugs expose a certain test case or scenario that we had not thought of testing before.  Sometimes those bugs are new features which need new test cases.  When a developer marks a bug with the in-litmus flag\, it signals to us that this bug may need a testcase.  It is our job to evaluate whether that is necessary and to create the testcase if needed. \nWhat will be happening\, exactly?\nAs mentioned earlier\, this is the first time we’ve tried a week long event.  Each day we have a different set of activities happening. Here is a list of what we will be doing: \n\nMonday\, we will be offering workshops on using Litmus\, Bugzilla\, and writing good testcases\nTuesday\, we will be focusing on Tabbed Browsing testcases\nWednesday\, we will be focusing on Session Store testcases\nThursday\, we will be focusing on Panorama (aka Tab Candy) test cases\nFriday\, we will be seeking to resolve all remaining in-litmus? bugs across all features in Firefox.\nWe will also be having a testday for Direct2D  and Panorama functionality in Firefox on Friday\n\nHow can I help?\nThis all depends on your level of comfort.  We want you to help us in the best way you can.  If you have little or no experience with Litmus\, Bugzilla\, or writing testcases\, you should come out on Monday and learn what it’s all about.  If you have some experience and want to hone your skills\, and you want to focus on Tabbed Browsing\, Session Store\, or Panorama\, you should join us on Tuesday to Thursday.  If you are pretty good at writing testcases and want to work at your own pace\, you should help us on Friday with the in-litmus? bugs. \nIf bug work and writing testcases is not your thing and you like to test new features\, we have just the thing for you.  On Friday\, we’ll be running a testday in #testday for Direct2D and Panorama in Firefox 4.  If you want to help test two of the hottest new features in Firefox\, you should come out Friday and help us test. \nWhat’s in it for me?\nFirst\, your efforts will go to make Firefox a better product.  Without testcases for these bugs\, it’s likely they could occur again.  You are helping millions of people who use Firefox everyday. \nOf course\, we’ve also built in a new incentive structure to this week-long event.  Depending on how much you are able to contribute\, you could win various prizes.  Some of the prizes include: \n\nan “I Support The Open Web” wrist band\na Mozilla t-shirt\, of your choosing\na $25 credit for the Mozilla Store\n\nWhere do I begin?\nGreat\, you’ve decided you want to help out\, but you want to learn more first. \nThe first thing you should do is familiarize yourself with the test plan — this tells you everything you need to know about what is happening this week. \nThe second thing you should do is read over the testcase writing primer — this will help you with writing a good testcase. \nThe third thing you should do\, if you plan on attending\, is fill out our survey — this will help us learn more about who you are so we can make bugdays more interesting to you. \nThat should put you in good standing to help us throughout the week.  If you still feel unprepared or inexperienced\, come out Monday and learn what it’s all about.  Don’t worry if you miss Monday’s workshops either; we’ll have people on-hand to assist during the entire week. \nThe event runs from Monday to Friday\, 11am to 6pm PDT (1800 – 0100Z).  So if you want to help out or learn something new\, join us!  You’ll find us on irc.mozilla.org in the #bugday channel. \nSee you then! \nashughes

SUMMARY:Thunderbird Trunk post libxul regression testing
DESCRIPTION:We recently landed a major patch\, which changed the way we build Thunderbird \, and added a good amount of fixes right after that. The Thunderbird QA team thinks it’s the right time to start a regression testing community event in order to find all the bugs that might have been introduced by those recent changes. \nIn order to do that we will have a community event that will start on September 30th 2010 and will run for a week. \nAll the details aren’t available yet\, but most of what you need to know for now is available on this wiki page. We’ll update the wiki page as details become available.

SUMMARY:Testing with Mozmill Test Day - Friday\, November 26th
DESCRIPTION:This Friday\, on November 26th\, the QA Test Automation team wants to hold a test day dedicated to Mozmill test automation. Even with the U.S. holiday in mind\, we think having a test day during this Friday can become a great success\, because we have the best community available which is located around the whole world. \nThis time we want to focus on a couple of different areas\, which will give attendees the freedom to choose between areas they would like to work on. Starting from test execution with the Mozmill add-on\, over examining and improving the documentation\, to helping us to fix broken tests or creating local test data files – everything will be covered that day. \nCheck the following list of items to find an area you would like to participate in: \n\nMozmill 1.5.1 has been released lately. It’s available as an add-on from addons.mozilla.0rg\, or can be installed as command line client by using pip or easy_install. Play around with the user interface of the extension\, try to write some simple tests\, and look out for bugs or possible improvements.\nExecute our current set of tests from the default branch of the mozmill-tests repository by using the latest Firefox 4.0 Beta 7 or a recent nightly-build.\nWe would like to get feedback for our current documentation. This part is especially targeted to new testers\, who never have used Mozmill before.\nWhile we are working on to get more remote test data converted to local files\, we haven’t had the time yet to finalize this project. If you are familiar with HTML\, CSS\, and/or Javascript\, you can help us to create such local test data files.\nUpdate: During our ongoing test day we were able to finally check-in the first l10n tests\, which test the preferences window for duplicated access keys and cropped elements. If you are a localizer\, you are welcome to run those tests.\nIf you are an author of an add-on and you want to write Mozmill tests for the add-on\, you are also very welcome. With the latest changes in Mozmill 1.5.1 it’s now easier to create tests which use our existing global shared modules.\n\nFor all the topics mentioned above\, we have a section in our Etherpad. Whenever questions arise or you have something to document\, feel free to contact the responsible leading person\, or add your ideas directly to the Etherpad itself. \nWe are looking forward to your participation through the whole day. As usual we will use the #testday channel of moznet. \nSee you on Friday!

SUMMARY:Add-ons Manager Test Day - Friday\, December 3rd
DESCRIPTION:This Friday\, on December 3rd\, the Mozilla QA team wants to hold a test day for the new add-ons manager in Firefox 4.0. With the latest changes\, including the check-in of the final style last week\, we were able to resolve a couple of our blocking bugs as fixed. Also given that the last test day for this component happened some months ago\, it’s time again to have a closer look at this particular new major feature. \nDuring the day we want to use the latest nightly build of Firefox 4.0 and focus on the following areas: \n\nVerification of fixed bugs.\nExploratory testing the back-end and front-end by executing the proposed actions from the add-ons manager test coverage spreadsheet. Beside that we have a list of assembled Litmus tests\, which are currently tracked in a separate in-litmus spreadsheet\, and can be used for guided testing.\nCreation of new Litmus tests by the given in-litmus? requests on Bugzilla.\nCreation of new Mozmill tests or local test data to run tests fully automated inside your Firefox instance.\n\nFor all the topics mentioned above\, we have a section in our Etherpad. Whenever questions arise or you have something to document\, feel free to contact the responsible leading person\, or add your ideas directly to the Etherpad itself. \nWe are looking forward to your participation through the whole day. SUMMARY:Session Store Test Day - Wednesday\, December 8th\, 2010
DESCRIPTION:Good day Mozilla QA Community! \nI’m excited to announce a test day coming up next Wednesday\, December 8th.  We’ll be testing some of the newest advancements in the Session Store feature of Firefox 4.0.  Session Store (or Session Restore) has been an established feature in Firefox for some time\, but there have been several improvements for the upcoming release of Firefox 4.  Some of these improvements include being able to restore previous sessions through the History menu and restoring selective tabs to improve performance.  In addition\, several new features have been added to Firefox\, like Panorama\, which need to be tested to see how they interact with Session Store. \nIn anticipation of these improvements\, we’ve created several new Session Store tests and cataloged several bugs which need to be verified.  Many of the tests have never been tested.  Likewise\, many of the bugs could be hiding potential regressions and blockers. \nThis is where you\, the community\, comes in.  We need your help running these tests and verifying the bugs.  Your mission\, should you choose to accept it\, will be to hunt for regressions and blocker bugs\, and to run through the tests.  Don’t worry if you’ve never done regression hunting before\, or even if you don’t know what a “regression” is.  Everyone is welcome — if you have no previous experience\, we can teach you!  We’ll have many Mozilla QA personnel and developers on hand to help guide you through the process and answer any questions. \nIf any of this catches your interest\, here is a rundown of how you can get started: \n\nDownload and install the latest nightly build of Firefox\nCome join us on IRC\nTry out the new Session Store tests\nVerify the bugs which have been fixed and find potential regressions\nTry to reproduce these new bugs and find potential blockers\n\nAs an added incentive\, we will be awarding points based on your accomplishments.  Prizes will be awarded to the top three (3) testers. \nFor more information\, please see the etherpad or simply join us on IRC in the #testday channel. \nIf you have any questions prior to the test day on Wednesday\, feel free to find me on the #qa channel. \nSee you Wednesday! \n– ashughes

SUMMARY:Web Console Testday - Friday\, December 10th\, 2010
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, Mozilla QA Community! \nWe are going to hold a testday for the Web Console this coming Friday\, December 10th. We will be testing the web console functionality which is a new feature in the upcoming Firefox 4. There has been a lot of progress in the past few months\, and we would like to present it to a wider audience for in-depth testing. If you are a web developer\, it would be great if you could exercise some of its features and if you could let us know how we can improve it. \nDuring the testday you will have a chance to choose from several activities like going through unconfirmed bugs\, verifying fixed bugs\, and going through a list of functional tests. Prizes will be awarded to the top three participants based on points. For more information about the testday and how you can participate see this etherpad or join us on IRC in the #testday channel. \nHere’s how you can get started: \n\nCome join us on IRC\nDownload and install the latest nightly build of Firefox (Minefield)\nGo through the Web Console tests in Litmus\nOr go through this spreadsheet with other in-depth tests\n\nIf you have any questions between now and then feel free to ask anyone in the #qa channel. \nSee you Friday! \njuanb

SUMMARY:Add-on Updates Test Day - Wednesday\, December 15th
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, Mozilla QA Community! \nMozWebQA is going to hold a test day for AMO on Wednesday\, December 15th.  The focus for this test day will be add-on updates. \nupdate.php is what Mozilla apps check to see if there are add-on updates available. We have migrated it to Python and need to ensure that there are no regressions. \nDuring the test day we plan to check various update-related use cases in different applications/versions and platform configurations. \nMore information about this test day is available here. You can learn more about updating add-ons here. \nPlease join us on IRC in the #testday channel.

SUMMARY:Firefox Sync Testday\, Friday\, January14th
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, Mozilla QA Community! \nMozilla Browser Technologies QA is going to hold a test day for Sync on Friday\, January 14th.  The focus for this test day will be on Sync in Fx4 beta 9 and current Mozilla mobile devices.  This type of testing is where you the Mozilla community really shine.  The diversity of profiles and usage patterns that each of you bring to our testing community makes this a perfect place for you to help iron out the last wrinkles in Sync as we approach the release of Firefox 4. \nDuring the test day we ask you to explore the feature\,  run through functional tests and/or verify or attempt to reproduce known bugs. \nUse ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/4.0b9-candidates/build1/ for testing and/or Fx4b9 when it becomes available. \nI’ve posted http://quality.mozilla.org/browser-technologies/weave/helpful-tips-for-qa-of-sync/ to help testers be more productive.  You’ll want to read that if you’re new to Sync testing. \nPlease join us on IRC in the #testday channel. \nHope to see you there\, \nTracy \nMozilla Browser Technologies QA
