As part of our QA Community strategy for 2008 I designed a volunteer participation survey in late 2007 as a first step in better understanding our QA contributors. The survey was available online for about two months from Jan 2 - Feb 27, 2008 and we reached out to contributors via newsgroups, mailing lists, and QMO. In the end, we had a pretty good sample of 114 responses.
The goal of the survey was to provide the Mozilla QA team a snapshot of what our community looked like and to gather feedback from volunteers so that we could better plan and execute on our community events and projects going forward.

Happy New Year from the Mozilla QA team!

As we put the finishing touches on Firefox 3, we want to make sure that all of our Mozilla QA community members get the support and guidance they need to help us ship the best Firefox ever.
2008 looks to be a very exciting year for Mozilla QA, so we hope that you will continue to be an active member of our community. Thank you for being a valuable part of the Mozilla project. If you have any questions or thoughts, feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Jay & the Mozilla QA team
I am starting this thread so that we have a place to collectively share ideas and give feedback on others' ideas about how we can get more people involved with QA.
Let me start off by saying that I believe we have a largely untapped resource available to us, 1st year college students. Just by the shear number of interns in Mountain View this summer, 21 by my count, the student community provides a lot of great talent in all areas. As it stands, most of the interns have been involved in the Mozilla community for a while now. Myself, I have only been involved since March 2007. I think that we can get much more help with the Mozilla project by getting word out to students. I believe that most students are unaware of the Mozilla project and how they can become involved. Before I got involved with Mozilla, I second guessed my coding skills and was reluctant to participate in the community. I had no idea about the many other opportunities available.
I think like the Spread firefox project and website that there shold also have one for thunderbird if you agree with me look at this https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=381791
I'm seriously wondering whether it's the right time to start some sort of regular QA community meetings, and how often we would want to hold them.
I think the primary focus of such meetings would be to keep MoCo QA and Volunteer Community Leaders on the same page, but it would also offer another chance to connect with any members of the community that attend.
Regular agenda items would probably include:
